Tenure-Track Position in Global Studies: Global Political Economy
The Global Studies Department at St. Lawrence University seeks applicants with expertise in global political economy and ability to teach courses on Asia. The person hired must be able to teach an introductory core course on globalization and political economy and an upper level course on theories of global political economy as well as electives in her/his field. Applications are encouraged from people who enjoy working at the boundaries of disciplines, area studies, and interdisciplinary studies. Ph.D. by the time of appointment is expected. Candidates must present evidence of excellence in teaching. Teaching load is three courses per semester. Teaching will probably include supervising senior independent projects and participating in departmental review of the projects. Interest in serving the Asian Studies Program and the university’s First-Year Program are also desirable.
Global Studies is a cross-divisional, interdisciplinary program drawing its depth from area studies and its theory and methods from political economy and cultural studies. The major includes core courses in global processes, intercultural studies, research methods, theories of cultural studies and political economy, and a senior independent project which asks students to do comparative and/or transnational research linking two geographic areas of concentration.
Preference will be given to candidates who have
- Expertise in some region of Asia
- Relevant language competence and field study
- Familiarity with the theoretical debates surrounding area, global, and development studies
- Significant experience in world systems, transnational, or comparative analysis
- Interest in working with study abroad programs
