Dr. O. K. Bates and Pi Mu Epsilon Award Winners

The Dr. O. Kenneth Bates Award is given annually to an outstanding senior (or seniors) major in mathematics, computer science, or statistics who has excelled in scholarship and service to the Department. The recipient must have completed an honors project and have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. The department faculty members select the recipient subject to these conditions.

The Pi Mu Epsilon Award is given annually to a student (or students) who have excelled in mathematics courses through the sophomore year.



The Sophomore Award in Computer Science: Presented to select first- or second-year students who have excelled in the study of mathematics.

The Sophomore Award in Data Science: Presented to select first- or second-year students who have excelled in the study of  Data Science.



The Sophomore Award in Statistics: Presented to select first-or second-year students who have excelled in the study of statistics.

The names of the recipients of the Bates award, the highest honor bestowed by the department, appear below in reverse chronological order back to 1977, the year the mathematics award was first given. The Computer Science Award was started in 2008, the Statistics Award in 2016, the Pi Mu Epsilon award in 2011 and the Sophomore Awards in 2023.
