I chose St. Lawrence University because of the biology program and the student body. As a pre-med student, my education in biology is very important to me, and SLU has the facilities to offer the education I am looking for. In addition to academics, I love the positive energetic atmosphere created by this school’s students and faculty.

My long-term goal is to work as a pediatrician in an underserved area. I started taking Spanish Classes in my sophomore year because I want to be able to communicate effectively with the large Spanish-speaking populations that live in urban and rural areas where I would consider a career.

As a non-language major I definitely struggled more in my Spanish classes than I ever did in math or science, but the overall experience has been incredibly rewarding. Studying abroad in Spain during my junior fall was one of the best decisions I ever made. I would encourage any student to take language classes and study abroad regardless of their major. I have already benefited from the skills and independence that I gained from my experience in Spain, and I know they will be invaluable as I pursue a career in medicine.
