MUSIC LIBRARY - ANNEX COLLABORATION
Located within the Annex theme house at 21 Romoda Drive, across from Griffiths Art Center, lies the St. Lawrence University Music Library. The Music Library houses a plethora of academic resources for the student body, including musical scores, DVDs and CDs, records, books, media technology and an electronic keyboard. Here you will also find Mac computers equipped with Sibelius and Garage Band software. The library also serves as a convenient place to study for music and performance classes, as all these materials are within reach!
A massive transition took place for the Music Library when the faculty offices upstairs were replaced with student dormitories in the Fall of 2010. However, what could have been a rocky transition was eased significantly by the fact that students moving in were members of a theme called the Annex. The Annex is a theme dedicated to the preservation of the performing arts on campus and in the community.
The Music Library has been hugely successful in collaborating with the Annex theme to create a pattern of coexistence conducive to both groups. Students associated with the theme are constantly in the Music Library studying, listening to and making music. As a theme associated with the performing arts, the library is undeniably a beneficial resource for the students. The Library benefits from the theme as well, as the students provide regular patronage and in some cases are even employed by the facility.
