Rhythm & Roots: Kind of Blue Jazz Collective

The focus of the Fall 2014 Rhythm & Roots experience will be on development of jazz knowledge and performance skills.  Miles Davis’s Kind of Blue, recorded in the Spring of 1959 will be the starting point of our explorations and in-depth investigations.  Depending on the interests and abilities of participants, we will head both backward and forward in time to get a sense of history and practice of this landmark session.  It is expected this experience will be at an intermediate to advanced level, with the hope that the group continues on in Spring 2015 in a self-directed, student-driven manner.  We’re going to dig deep – and dig doing it!

Auditions will be held Monday, September 1st beginning at 4:30 pm in Noble Center 001 (Launders Underground.)  You should be prepared to play along with a track of your choice from Kind of Blue.  There will also be some sight reading of standard music notation (including chord symbols.)

Rehearsals are Monday and Wednesday, 4:30 – 6:00 pm starting Wednesday, September 3rd in Launders Underground.

Our performance takes place on Monday, November 10 at 8 pm in Launders Underground.
