The winner of the Holiday Dessert category was SLU Dining Service's Triple Latte
Cheesecake, which also brought in the most money for the Potsdam Neighborhood
Center, going for $100 in the silent auction. The event raised a total of
$1,037 for the center, with 30 desserts and goodies auctioned.
Co-op General Manager Scott Miller said, "The Holiday Bake-Off is one of my
favorite Co-op events. I enjoy the dessert dynamic, the intense bidding and
the fact that for the second year in a row we've raised more than $1,000. I
thank everyone who contributed and bid in this event."
The Potsdam Neighborhood Center designates the money raised at the bake-off
for seeds and plants sold in the spring so that people can grow their own
vegetables. The money is also used for food emergencies throughout the year.
The Neighborhood Center is the outreach site of the St. Lawrence County
Community Development Program. Its mission is to help the poor and at-risk
population of the area, providing resources and referrals and encouraging
education, training and employment. The center houses the Emergency Food
Pantry and sponsors programs in housing, nutrition and family development.
