Two St. Lawrence graduates have recently been named head men's basketball coach at universities in New Mexico and Iowa.

Western New Mexico University in Silver City has named Mark Coleman '83 men's basketball coach. He comes to WNMU from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, where he had been the head coach for the past eight seasons. In 1996-97 he earned Coach of the Year honors for leading the Rangers to a 19-9 record and their first ever ECAC Championship. At St. Lawrence, Coleman was a team captain and MVP as a senior. He was also a three-year all-conference selection and led the Saints to two NCAA III Tournament appearances.

Wayne Morgan '73 has been named Iowa State University's 17th men's basketball coach. He spent last season as an assistant at Iowa State, joining the ISU basketball staff in July of 2002. Morgan is a former head coach at Long Beach State and was a long-time assistant at Syracuse.

Morgan spent six years as head coach at Long Beach State, where he compiled a 91-84 overall mark and a 55-39 record in the Big West Conference. Prior to his stint at Long Beach State, he was assistant coaches at Syracuse, from 1984-96. Before Syracuse, Morgan coached as an assistant at Xavier (1979-84) and Dartmouth (1975-79); his first head coaching job was at Dutchess Community College in Pougkeepsie, and he was an assistant coach at St. Lawrence in 1972-73.
