David Blanchard '80
The Reverend David Blanchard '80 has been named to lead the the Unitarian Universalist Church of Canton, beginning August 1. Blanchard's first settled ministry was at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Lexington, Kentucky, where he was ordained. He also served the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Syracuse, from 1989 to 2006, and most recently has been consulting minister for the Unitarian Universalist Church of Utica.
He earned a master of divinity from Harvard Divinity School in 1986. As part of his theological education he was a summer intern at the UU Church of Canton in 1984 under then-minister Max Coots. He also served as student minister and interim director of religious education at First Church in Belmont, Massachusetts, from 1983 to 1986.
Blanchard earned his St. Lawrence degree in government and studied in Kenya, through the University's International and Intercultural Studies program. He was elected to the leadership honor society Omicron Delta Kappa. Blanchard has two daughters; Emily is a member of the University's Class of 2011.
