Trustee Derrick Pitts '78 has been featured in a number of major news outlets recently, discussing a telescope that was used by Galileo, on loan to the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, where Pitts is chief astronomer.

The featured piece in an exhibition called "Galileo, the Medici and the Age of Astronomy," the telescope will be at the Franklin Insitute through September, in celebration of the International Year of Astronomy. It is the first time that the instrument has been allowed out of Italy.

Pitts has been interviewed and quoted for recent stories in The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, as well as National Public Radio and "The Colbert Report" on Comedy Central.

A geology major at St. Lawrence, Pitts makes frequent appearances in the regional news in Philadelphia, as well as in national news outlets. Read more about Derrick Pitts on our Amazing Alumni page.
