Williams College won the NCAA Division III men's basketball championship, led by Head Coach Dave Paulsen. Prior to becoming Williams' coach two years ago, Paulsen coached basketball at St. Lawrence, where he was 40-13 in his final two seasons (50-28 overall) and went 22-3 en route to winning the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Championship in 1996-1997.

Norwich University's men's ice hockey team won the NCAA Division III championship, with Head Coach Mike McShane at the helm. McShane was head men's ice hockey coach at St. Lawrence from 1980 to 1985; he had a 95-65-6 record in those five seasons and led the Saints to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 1983.
