Five St. Lawrence students, participants in CSTEP and the McNair Scholars program, participated in the GEM Grad Lab at Cornell University October 20, 2012. The workshop was part of an initiative through the National GEM Consortium, an organization designed to provide opportunities for underrepresented students interested in pursuing doctoral study in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields.
Jose Alejandro '14, Andre Chavez '15, Tonisha Kerr '15, Kimberly Morante '15 and Jennifer Quinde '15 participated in the event, which included information on navigating the graduate school application process. Students also had the opportunity to interact with graduate students who had been awarded GEM Fellowships, which assist with funding education for advanced degrees.
