Being nominated for two 2005 Boston Music Awards may not be the highlight of the year for former St. Lawrence student Grace Potter and her band, the Nocturnals. According to the Boston Globe, while the Potter and the band didn't win, their performance "stole the show" and they are opening for some very well-known national acts on their current tour.

According to the music industry publication Pollstar, Potter and the Nocturnals are currently on their "Ben and Jerry's Bringing It All Back Home Tour," meaning they're booked at a lot of venues in Potter's native state of Vermont. Pollstar states that the band will "mix their own headline dates with a second-stage stint for Dave Matthews Band, as well as opening for North Mississippi Allstars and Taj Mahal."

The band, which includes Matt Burr '03, got its start at St. Lawrence while Potter was a student at the University, and at one time included other St. Lawrence students as well. The lineup now includes Burr on drums and percussion, guitarist Scott Tournet and bassist Bryan Dondero.

Potter was nominated for best local female artist in the recent Boston Music Awards, and she and the band were nominated for best new local act. They have recorded two albums, 2004's Original Soul and Nothing But The Water, released in 2005.
