St. Lawrence's impact on ice hockey has made recent headlines in a number of ways.
The Boston Bruins have signed left wing T.J. Trevelyan '06 to a multi-year contract.
Trevelyan played the last four seasons of college hockey at St. Lawrence, with 78
goals and 76 assists for 154 points and 204 penalty minutes in 150 career college
games. He earned his St. Lawrence degree in history.
A new arena at Miami University of Ohio's Goggin Ice Center will be named
the Steve Cady Arena, in honor of St. Lawrence Class of 1975 member Cady, who is the school's
senior associate athletics director and head hockey coach for its first seven
varsity seasons (1978-85). Cady earned his St. Lawrence degree in sport and
leisure studies and has a master's degree in education from Bowling Green.
Jay Heinbuck, who was an assistant men's hockey coach at St. Lawrence for 10
years, was recently hired as the director of amateur scouting for the Pittsburgh
Penguins. The hire was made by Ray Shero '84, who was quoted in news stories
as stating of Heinbuck, "I've always thought that if I had the opportunity to hire
him, I would."
