A film produced by Patrick Cunningham '87 will make its debut in the Dramatic Competition of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, beginning January 21. Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene, produced by Cunningham, is written and directed by Sean Durkin.
"Haunted by painful memories and increasing paranoia," states the description of the film, "a damaged woman struggles to reassimilate with her family after fleeing an abusive cult."
Cunningham, who earned his St. Lawrence degree in sociology, has been involved in the film business for a number of years, as both a producer and casting director. He says, "I've never had a film in Sundance Festival before, so it's a lot of fun to be in the official competiation. My agent introduced the project to me and I became involved immediately, based on the strength of the script and the director."
The film production company headed by Cunningham and a partner plans to produce two additional feature films this year. Cunningham also works as a music producer.
More information about Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene is available on the Sundance Festival 2011 web site.
