The SLU Athletics department celebrated
National Student Athlete Day last week, with a luncheon involving coaches
and athletes selected by the coaches as exemplary team members. The
students have achieved excellence in academic and athletics while making
significant contributions to the community. Members of the Student Athletic
Advisory Committee helped host the event.
Students honored were:
Baseball
Jeffery DiGeronimo ‘06 is from Sturbridge, MA and graduated from
Tantasqua Regional High School. He is a math major and a statistics
and physics minor. He is captain of the baseball team, a four-year starter
at first base and is a member of SAAC. Jeffrey is a member of the national
mathematics honorary and the nation physical honorary, and has also
been on the Dean’s List and the All-National Academic Team. He
is also a member of SAAC.
Men’s Basketball
Patrick Delmonico ’06 is an economics major. The Skaneateles,
N.Y. native is involved in community service with NYSARC. Patrick has
worked with children of the Canton community and surrounding areas as
an instructor at free basketball clinics. Patrick graduated from Christian
Brothers Academy.
Women’s Basketball
Brittany Gaetano ’07, from New Hartford, N.Y., is the starting
point guard for the Saints’ women’s basketball team. The
New Hartford Senior High School graduate is a math major with a minor
in sports studies and exercise science. She has done volunteer work
at a local thrift store and participated in “Make A Difference
Day” last fall. She set a school record with 8 three-pointers
in a single game.
Men’s Crew
Christopher Wright ’08, from Johnson, VT, is a physics major.
He graduated from Lamoille Union High School.
Women’s Crew
Paula Bogart ’07, from Alexandria Bay, N.Y., is a history major.
She graduated from Alexandria Central School.
Men's Cross Country
Kevin Emblidge ’06, from Queensbury, N.Y., competes on three athletic
teams at St. Lawrence: cross country, Nordic skiing, and spring track
and field. The geology major graduated from Queensbury High School and
volunteers at NYSARC and Hoffmann trail maintenance.
Women’s Cross Country
Bridget Coon ’06 is a biology major with minors in English and
Exercise Science. The Penfield, N.Y. native was captain of the Cross
Country team last fall. She has been involved with peer tutoring, math
and reading tutoring at Canton Elementary and Middle Schools, and worked
with a group from NYSARC this past fall. She graduated from Penfield
High School.
Field Hockey
Nicole Aronski ’07, from Fayetteville, N.Y., is double majoring
in Spanish and Global Studies. The Fayetteville-Manlius High School
graduate spent a year abroad in the Spain program, and is also a Spanish
teaching assistant, and a Spanish writing center mentor. She is a USFHA
Scholar Athlete and was a Liberty League Scholar-Athlete.
Football
Anthony Paul ’08, from Spring Valley, NY and a graduate of Spring
Valley High School is a physics major and a Presidential Diversity Scholar
student. He is a back-up middle linebacker for the Saints’ Football
team. He’s involved in Black Student Union, works at Gunnison
Chapel, and recently earned Liberty League All-Academic honors.
Men’s Golf
Brad Bardon ’06, from Chatham, N.J. is captain of the men’s
golf team. He is also a member of the Geology Club and is an Outdoor
Program guide. Brad graduated from Chatham High School and is a geology
and physics major.
Women’s Golf
Lauren Nuffort ’06, from Dellwood, MN, is captain of the women’s
golf team. She is a member of various academic honoraries and is an
All-American Scholar. She is also a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority
and Omicron Delta Kappa, the leadership honorary. Lauren graduated from
St. Paul Academy.
Men’s Hockey
Drew Bagnall ’07 is an economics major. The Oakbank, Manitoba
native volunteered for the St. Mary’s Elementary School Playground
project and for the Pee-Wee Hockey Association. His first year, he was
named “Freshman Scholar Athlete of the Year”. Drew, who
graduated from Springfield Collegiate, will serve as one of the captains
for the team during the 2006-2007 season.
Women’s Hockey
Tracy Muzerall, from Mississauga, ON, is a graduate student. She is
a psychology major, but is now working on her counseling and development
masters. She volunteers for SLU Buddies, S.K.I.Ns (Supplies for Kids
In Need), and tutors at Canton Central Schools.
Men’s Lacrosse
Justin Demuth ’07, from Jordan, N.Y., is the starting goalie for
the men’s lacrosse team. The math major is also the SAAC representative
from the team. Justin graduated from Jordan Elbridge Junior-Senior High
School.
Women’s Lacrosse
Stephanie Walter ’08 is from Syracuse, N.Y. and is a chemistry
major. She is an orientation leader, an advocate, and is a member of
SAAC. Stephanie graduated from Nottingham High School.
Riding
Tara Alibrandi ’06, from Bradford, NH and is a fine arts major.
When she’s not riding, she is volunteering at the Salvation Army
or the Town of Canton Food Bank. She also is a student volunteer at
the riding stables. Tara graduated from Kearsarge Regional High School.
Men’s Skiing-Alpine
AJ Puccia ’06 is the captain for the men’s alpine skiing
team. The Sackets Harbor, N.Y. native is a double English and French
major, and spent a semester abroad in France. He has spent the past
two summers coaching young athletes in ski racing. AJ graduated from
the National Sports Academy.
Women’s Skiing-Alpine
Erin McDermott ’07, from Bonney Lake, WA, spent fall 2005 abroad
in Kenya teaching children. Erin is a psychology major at St. Lawrence,
and She graduated from Summer Senior High School.
Men’s Skiing-Nordic
Matt Barton '06 is from Cape Elizabeth, ME. He is an economics major
and was the 2004 Nordic Coaches Award Winner. Throughout his career,
he’s had five top 20 finishes. Matt graduated from Cape Elizabeth
High School.
Women’s Skiing-Nordic
Kalie Dunn '08, from Yarmouth, ME, is an environmental studies major.
She tutors at Canton Elementary School and was the 2005 First Year Scholar
Athlete award winner. She had five top 20 finishes as a sophomore in
EISA races. Kalie graduated from Yarmouth High School.
Men’s Soccer
Chris Lonegan ’07, from North Yarmouth, ME, is a biology major.
He is treasurer of the Outing Club and participated in the SLU Buddies
program during his first two years at St. Lawrence. Chris graduated
from Greenly High School.
Women’s Soccer
Zippy Podhaizer ’07, from Essex, VT, is a three-time Liberty League
All Conference and two time Liberty League All-Academic. The biochemistry
major is a regular on the Dean’s List. Zippy graduated from Essex
High School.
Softball
Ava Pickering ’07 is from Arlington, VT and is majoring in sociology.
She volunteers at the Canton Nursing Home, is a member of Circle K,
works in the Office of Special Needs, and is a SLU Advocate. She was
also named to the Dean’s List. Ava has studied abroad in Thailand
and Washington D.C. She graduated from Arlington Memorial School.
Men’s Squash
Dan McElvaine ’08 is from Harare, Zimbabwe. He is a neuroscience
major and graduated from Prince Edward School.
Women’s Squash
Katia Stipinovich ’07, from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, is an economics
major. She graduated from St. Paul’s School.
