Timothy de la Bruere '04, of Newport, VT, has been named to the newly formed Vermont Commission on Native American Affairs by Governor Jim Douglas.

The Commission was established in May of 2006, and appointments to the seven-member group were announced in August. Commission members were selected from individuals who were either recommended by Native American organizations or applied individually.

de la Bruere, whose St. Lawrence degree is in history, was a Presidential Diversity Scholar and served as president of the Native American Student Organization. While at St. Lawrence, de la Bruere completed course studies and an internship on the Akwesasne reservation, where he studied interactions between Native and non-Native governments. Also an Eagle Scout, he is an apprentice electrician in Newport.
