Dr. Karin Heckman to present research at upcoming conference
Recent collaborative work by SLU professors Dr. Kari Heckman, Dr. Joe Erlichman, Dr. Bill DeCoteau, and Dr. Matt Skeels was selected for oral presentation at the upcoming annual Sustainable Nanotechnology Organization (SNO) conference in Santa Barbara, CA November 3-5, 2013. Dr. Heckman will deliver the presentation entitled “Differences in the Neuroprotective Effects of Nanoceria in a Murine Model of Multiple Sclerosis” which compares the therapeutic potential of different types of cerium oxide nanoparticles in a mouse model of the autoimmune disease multiple sclerosis. A number of SLU undergraduates contributed to these studies, which are also being compiled in a manuscript in preparation. Dr. Heckman is shown here with her former research student Gary Gilmond, III ’11 who is currently a medical student at the University of Vermont.
