The new residence hall will be home to as many as 155 students when it opens in fall 2014.

  • Mixed, 3- and 4-story, 45,000-square-foot building
  • Glass bridge commons area/portal connecting two sections
  • 81 total rooms (18 singles; 52 doubles; 11 triples)
  • More than 30 rooms with a view of the Quad
  • 10 informal common spaces (not including bridge commons)
  • Grab-and-go cyber-café
  • Outdoor art, performance and gathering space


Construction

  • Site: former road and parking lot between the Noble Center and the Quad
  • Temporary fencing for safety and to allow room for construction
  • Geothermal wells being placed underground in lower Quad
  • Original topsoil will cover wells, and the Quad will be returned in full
  • Project will add green space and landscaping on building’s north side
  • Additional trees will be planted



Sustainability

  • Building to LEED standards, including best practices for green design and construction
  • 100-year building
  • Minimal footprint, building up instead of out, on existing pavement
  • Optimized use of natural light, particularly in meeting spaces
  • Geothermal heating and cooling
