New Residence Hall Nearly Halfway to Funding Goal
CANTON — Another anonymous donation of $1 million recently brought St. Lawrence University closer to its $13 million goal for construction of a new residence hall.
Construction of the residence hall, which is being built on the former road and parking lot between the Noble Center and the Quad, started in April. The residence hall will be home to as many as 155 students when it opens in fall 2014.
Workers have temporarily fenced off a portion of the Quad where geothermal wells will be buried underground. The wells, which will provide “green” energy to heat and cool the building, will be covered with the original topsoil, and the Quad will be restored.
As of July 9, the University has raised nearly $5.8 million to pay for the residence hall. The Class of 2013 kicked off the fundraising effort by pledging its class gift of nearly $8,000.
