President Fox Joins 'Presidents' Trust' Initiative Advancing Liberal Education
St. Lawrence University President William L. Fox has joined the Presidents' Trust, formed by the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). The organization, which includes 82 college and university leaders from around the country, have committed to strongly and collectively make the case for liberal education and its value in the contemporary world. The Presidents Trust is a leadership group within AAC&U's national initiative, Liberal Education and America's Promise (LEAP): Excellence for Everyone as a Nation Goes To College.

SLU Receives $1.75 Million Gift For Music Performance Space
St. Lawrence University has been given $1.75 million to create a new performance space in the Griffiths Arts Center. The Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall will be in the location of the former Gilbert Recital Hall. Renovations are under way and are expected to be completed so that the facility can be in use for the fall 2010 semester.

West African Textiles On Exhibition At SLU Gallery
A collection of textiles from West Africa, a gift from alumni, will be on exhibition in the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery at St. Lawrence University from October 28 through December 16. The gallery will also host a number of events in conjunction with the exhibition, "From Weave to Web: West African Textiles from the collection of Christopher D. Roy and Nora Leonard Roy."

Class Of 2003 Graduate Elected To St. Lawrence University Board
Breanne E. Malloy, of New York City, has been elected to a four-year term on the St. Lawrence University Board of Trustees. A 2003 graduate of the University, she is a vice-president in the fixed-income sales and trading division at Goldman Sachs & Co. With the firm for almost seven years, Malloy began her career there as a summer intern between her junior and senior years at St. Lawrence.

Christopher "Woody" Parker '09, of Kansas City, MO, was named EMS Person of the Year at the Canton Fire and Rescue Appreciation Night Banquet, held in October of 2009. Parker returned to the area from Kansas City to receive the honor.

Prof. Koon's Work Cited In Costa Rican Paper
Professor of Physics Daniel Koon's overview of the history and present state of Costa Rican science fiction was mentioned in an article in November 15, 2009's La Nación newspaper, published in San José, Costa Rica. Koon will teach a First-Year Seminar, Global Science Fiction, in spring 2010 focusing on science fiction in translation; the course includes some of his own translations.

Evan Munderville '10, of Schenectady, NY, was part of a team that placed fourth in the Early Leaders Case Competition at the Simon Graduate School of Business, University of Rochester, November 7 and 8, 2009. The fourth-place prize was $1,500; other students on the team were from SUNY Brockport, Queens College and the University of Rochester.

Rebecca Klar '10 Awarded Research Grant
Rebecca Klar '10, of Easton, CT, has been awarded a research grant by the Beta Beta Beta Research Foundation in support of her honors Senior-Year Experience project in neuroscience. Working with Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology Karin Heckman, Klar is studying a naturally occurring pigment with potential therapeutic effects for multiple sclerosis.
