St. Lawrence University Holding Music Auditions
St. Lawrence University’s music ensembles welcome new members from the North Country community. All music ensembles are open to students, faculty and staff, and auditions are already underway.

Below is a brief listing of ensembles with audition times. Please contact the director for an appointment if you cannot make the audition.
As Canton’s community chorus, University Chorus combines the vocal talents of students, faculty and staff as well as community members. They perform a varied repertoire often with instrumental accompaniment. This fall, the chorus celebrates the patron saint of music, St. Cecilia, with a complete performance of Handel’s Alexander’s Feast with orchestra.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the String Orchestra plays a divers repertoire including styles such as classical, folk/traditional and popular idioms such as Broadway, Hollywood and pops. This fall will continue a retrospective theme, taking repertoire from the past 10 years.
Rehearsals take place on Wednesdays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Auditions will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3. Both will take place in Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall located in St. Lawrence University’s Griffiths Arts Center. The 45-member strong Wind Ensemble will be directed this year by Canton native Kyle Tupper. All woodwind, brass and percussion players are welcome to join.

Kinda Blue Jazz Collective
Directed by Canton High School band teacher Tim Savage, the ensemble will explore the groundbreaking Miles Davis album Kinda Blue in various jazz combos.

Do you catch yourself drumming incessantly on tabletops, singing along with the washing machine’s beat, or making saxophones out of pizza boxes and broken straws? The SoundSandBox is a place to explore ways of making sound together.
While skilled musicians are welcome, anyone may participate in this ensemble with the permission of the instructor. No prior experience with musical performance is required. The ensemble will work on strategies for silent film accompaniment and learn how to both play set pieces and improvise.
