The department of Performance and Communication Arts will offer a non-credited Middle Eastern dance classes during the 2013 spring semester. There will be two 6-week sessions of both Introduction to Middle Eastern Dance and Basimah’s Habibis. Again, these classes will not be credit-bearing and are being offered to anyone wishing to learn about Middle Eastern dance.
Introduction to Middle Eastern Dance will be offered on Thursdays from 5:30-6:30pm for 2- 6 week sessions ($55/per session or $100 if paid by January 31, 2013). Session dates are from January 31-March 7, and from March 28-May 2. Middle Eastern dancing is designed for all ages and persons of every size, shape, and personality; anybody can try this fun dance form out and succeed. It’s an excellent form of cardio exercise, and it also helps build strong muscles in the arms, legs, gluts, and core. The goal is to gain strength and confidence in an enjoyable and safe environment. Please do not wear constricting clothing. A sash or hip scarf (available for $10) around your hips is required. For registration form, go to the bottom of this page.
Basimah's Habibis will be offered on Thursdays from 6:45 – 8 pm for 2- 6 week sessions ($65/per session or $120 if paid by January 31, 2013). Session dates are from January 31-March 7, and from March 28-May 2. If you have taken the basics of Middle Eastern dance with Jessica Stewart and you are looking to build upon that foundation, this is the class for you. We will be learning more advanced moves and go into the art of performing and the history of belly dance. There will be performing opportunities; your participation in performances is optional. Fee covers the classes, only. Costumes or props that may be involved with performing are at your own expense. There will be additional practices prior to performances at no extra charge (instructor may or may not be in attendance at practice sessions). Please do not wear constricting clothing. A sash or hip scarf around your hips is required (available for $10 if you do not own something already). You must have instructor’s permission to take this class.
