Since 1996, Daniel F. Sullivan has served as the 17th
president of St. Lawrence University.
A 1965 mathematics graduate of St. Lawrence, Dr. Sullivan
received the Ph.D. in sociology from Columbia University where he was
an Edward John Noble Fellow and a National Science Foundation Graduate
Fellow. His research and scholarship have been focused in science and
mathematics education, the sociology of science and medicine, and the
sociology of organizations.
Under President Sullivan's leadership, St. Lawrence
University launched several major
initiatives
in academic programs, including expansion of the faculty
and the addition of new major fields and international study programs;
facilities renovation including expansion and construction of student
life, academic and athletic spaces; and in regional economic development
and community relations.
President Sullivan has announced his plans to retire effective June 30, 2009. A search for his successor has begun.
