Assistant Director and Climbing Programs Coordinator

St. Lawrence University seeks a climber to fill the recurring, nine-month (Aug. 15-May 15) position of Assistant Director in the Outdoor Program.  The Outdoor Program provides quality outdoor recreational and educational programming to the campus community, both locally in the Adirondack Mountains and throughout North America.  Position responsibilities include supervision, management and continued development of an indoor climbing facility, and local and expedition-style climbing programs. The position requires leading novice and experienced students on appropriate climbing and mountaineering courses as well as monitoring on-site and field risk management. Administrative duties of the Outdoor Program include managing budgets, training and managing student workers, marketing courses and events, and planning logistics for weekend and extended courses.

Candidates must have a B.A. or B.S. and be WFR certified.  Professional certifications from appropriate organizations are desirable.  Professional experience with organizations such as NOLS, Outward Bound or similar programs including college outdoor programs is preferred. Experience is required leading and instructing multi-pitch climbs, teaching a full climbing curriculum indoors and outdoors, managing daily operations of the climbing wall, leading extended wilderness trips, and teaching outdoor leadership.
