Coordinator of General and Organic Laboratory
A position for an academic support specialist is open for an individual with interest and expertise in chemical education. This individual will take on overall responsibility for the laboratory components of general and organic chemistry. These courses enroll on average a total of 200 students each semester. An M.S. in chemistry, or B.S. with extensive laboratory teaching experience, is required. The position is a ten month, renewable appointment.
The successful candidate will handle supervisory/teaching responsibility for a total of 5 sections comprised of a mix of general and organic chemistry labs each semester. Some lab sections run in the evening. Other duties will include preparatory session lecture planning, grading of student reports, and lab setup. In conjunction with faculty, the Lab Coordinator will help prepare and update the in-house laboratory manuals for general chemistry and organic chemistry. We encourage investigative problem based approaches in our curriculum. This individual will also handle the hiring, training and supervision of student laboratory teaching assistants. This is a professional position and career development will be supported. Opportunities for laboratory curricular development including the research and testing of new experiments will be provided.
