Visiting Assistant Professor in Rhetorical Studies
The Department of Performance and Communication Arts at St. Lawrence University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in the area of rhetorical studies to begin August 2008. The teaching load is three courses per semester. Depending on the person hired, these might include: public speaking, rhetorical criticism, rhetoric of social movements, rhetoric of popular culture, visual rhetoric, communication ethics, and/or other courses in the applicant’s areas of specialization. The successful applicant will be hired under a one-year contract, with this contract potentially renewable for up to two years.
Preference will be given to candidates who have:
- college-level teaching experience and a track record of excellence in the classroom;
- experience working at the intersections of multiple disciplines, especially performance and communication arts;
- a demonstrable commitment to engaged pedagogies addressing issues of race, class, gender, sexuality, and other issues that speak to the needs of the campus and local North Country communities; and
- experience and interest in participating in faculty-development initiatives, especially the university’s new Rhetoric and Communication Program, an initiative that aims to infuse attention to rhetoric and communication across the disciplines and across students’ four years of undergraduate study.
Degree requirements: Ph.D. preferred, ABD considered.
