Clerical Assistant (Temporary)

St. Lawrence University seeks a full-time, temporary, clerical assistant in the Office of Financial Aid and Student Financial Services.  This position will counsel students and families regarding their options for financing a St. Lawrence University education, including  Federal Stafford Loans, Federal Perkins Loans, St. Lawrence College Loans, Federal PLUS Loans and private Alternative Loans in addition to the monthly Payment Plan Option.  Understanding the student billing and financial aid systems will be essential to providing sound advice.  This person will work in conjunction with the Student Loan Clerk in communicating student loan entrance counseling requirements and Master Promissory Note completion requirements to first-time borrowers of Federal Stafford Loans and Federal Perkins Loans.  Work in conjunction with the Student Loan Clerk in communicating student loan exit counseling requirements.  May involve one-on-one and/or small group meetings about student rights and responsibilities as a student loan borrower.  Work in conjunction with the Student Loan Clerk to insure that loan originations have been received and processed by the loan service provider.  Resolve discrepancies and problems as they arise.  Answer questions and requests from student loan service providers for additional information and clarification that is requested.   Follow up with lenders and families regarding Federal Plus and other educational loans not yet received.  Assist students, families, and alumni with questions regarding their student loan debt.  Assist Financial Aid Office Staff with the verification process and related follow –up communication to process award notifications early for timely loan processing.  Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma (or equivalent) required.  A minimum of 1-2 years experience in an office environment preferred.  Specific knowledge of St. Lawrence preferred.  Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel required, Access preferred.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and telephone manner required.  Confidentiality and professionalism is required in all aspects of this position.  Interested candidates should submit letter of interest, resume and the names, titles, and phone numbers of 3 professional references to the Associate Director of Human Resources, RE: Financial Aid/SFS Clerical Temp., 23 Romoda Drive, Canton, NY 13617.  Applications will be reviewed as received.  St. Lawrence University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity employer.  Women, minorities, veterans, and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
