Jasmin Garcia '13 accepts job helping older adults in East Harlem

Jasmin Garcia ‘ 13, a sociology major, got hired as the Volunteer and Activities Director of the Carter Burden Center for the Aging in East Harlem. The Carter Burden Center is a not for profit organization established in 1971 with the goal of helping older people (60 years and older) to age safely and with dignity. She will start educational programs in nutrition and English literacy for a senior center of predominately Latino background, some African American and Asia groups.  It involves using an inter-generational approach by recruiting students from local schools and across the other boroughs in order to further promote community well-being and success.  She’ll assist and recruit volunteers for the food security program which entails providing two meals a day for the seniors of the center.
