Entering his 36th season at St. Lawrence University, baseball coach Tom Fay has produced six conference championships and taken the Saints to the ECAC tournament and the league conference tournament three times in the last seven years and has coached the Saints to back-to-back 20-plus win seasons, including a record-tying 24 wins in 2006..

The all-time win leader in SLU baseball coaching history, Fay is has over 400 career victories, which ranks in the top 30 nationally. He has a career record of 467-482-6. He has coached a number of conference championship teams and has compiled an outstanding record in a region which includes some of the top small college teams in the nation, along with a challenging league schedule. The Saints annually play perennial national powers such as Ithaca College (Empire Eight) and Cortland (SUNY Conference).

Fay joined the Saint staff as baseball coach and assistant football coach in 1972. A graduate of Ithaca College in 1968 where he was a three-sport athlete, he earned his master's degree at St. Lawrence in 1970 and his doctorate from Boston University in 1982. Fay also holds the rank of full professor on the University faculty. Throughout his tenure at St. Lawrence, Fay served over 20 years as the defensive coordinator for the football team and had a two-year stint as an assistant basketball coach. In addition to his coaching, Fay has served as regional chair and a member of the NCAA Division III National Baseball Committee from 1990-1998.

Fay is a native of Moravia, N.Y., where he attended Moravia Central High School. A resident of Canton, he has two grown daughters, Melinda and Tawnya.

Mike Leonard joins the Saint coaching staff after four seasons of professional baseball in the Boston Red Sox organization.

 

Leonard, who will be Saint pitching coach, was a four-year starter at the University of Connecticut and earned All Big East honors twice. A four-time All Big East academic selection, he was captain of the team as a senior and is fifth all-time in hits for the Huskies.

 

He played summer ball for the Harwick Mariners in the Cape Cod League and began his professional career with the New Haven County Cutters of the Can-Am League before playing in the Red Sox organization for four seasons, reaching AA ball with the Portland Sea Dogs.
