SAINTS FINISH FIFTH IN OWN INVITATIONAL


            Sept. 7: St. Lawrence University’s men’s golf team finished fifth overall and third among US teams in the ninth annual St. Lawrence University Collegiate Invitational at the St. Lawrence University Golf Course on Sunday.
       

     The Saints had a best four player score of 303 on Saturday and posted a 310 on Sunday to finish with a 613 total, three strokes behind New York University, which shot matching rounds of 305. Hamilton College had rounds of 305 and 300 and was the top NCAA team in the 14-team field with a 605 total. The University of Waterloo shot rounds of 295 and 296 for a 591 total and was the overall tournament champion with Ottawa, which shot 301 and 302, second at 603.


            Brandon Christo of Elmira was the overall individual champion with rounds of 70 and 75 for a one-over par 145 total to lead a 73-golfer field. Garrett Rank of Waterloo, younger brother of former Saint All America golfer and men’s hockey standout Kyle Rank, tied for second with rounds of 74 and 73.

 

            Junior Ben Von Reyn was the top Saint finished in seventh with rounds of 72 and 77 for a five-over total on the 6673-yard, par 72 St. Lawrence course. L.B. Haney finished tied for 13th with rounds of 75 and 78 for a 153 total with rookie David Bushing shooting 76 and 77 to also finish at 153. Rookie Ren O’Connor was the fourth Saint scorer with back-to-back rounds of 80 for a 160 total while Dough Weaver completed the Saint Scarlet team with rounds of 88 and 79 for a 166 total.

 

            Rookie Adrian Bouthot made a bid for a spot in the lineup for next week’s tournament at Middlebury with rounds of 78 and 76, tying for 17th overall while Pete Harriman, also playing for SLU Borwn, was tied for 40th with a 159 total on rounds of 79 and 80. Rookie Joe Millett shot 74 and 86 for a 160 total and Andrew Krieger shot 79 and 82 for a 161 total.           

 

VON REYN TIED FOR SECOND, SAINTS TOP US TEAM AFTER DAY ONE


            Sept. 6: Junior Ben VonReyn shot an even-par round of 72 and is tied for second in a 73 golfer field and the Saint men’s golf team is the top US team in a 14 team field after day one of the St. Lawrence Collegiate Invitational at the St. Lawrence University Golf Course.


            VonReyn shot a two-over 37 on the front nine and came back with a two-under 35 on the back for his 72, which trails only Brandon Christo of Elmira, who shot 37-33 for a two-under 70.

 

            Other Saints in the top 20 include freshman Joe Millett who shot 74 for the SLU Brown team with senior LB Haney shooting a 75 and freshman David Bushing a 76 in his first collegiate tournament.

 

            Waterloo, which got a 74 from Garrett Rank, the younger brother of former Saint golf All America and hockey player Kyle Rank, lead the tournament with a 295 total with the University of Ottawa six strokes back. The Saint Scarlet team has a two stroke lead on New York University and Hamilton which are tied for fourth with 305 totals while Clarkson is sixth with a 309 total after day one.
