A Quick Rise for Saint Women's Golf Program
Established as a varsity program in 1999-2000 along with the resurrection of the men's golf program, the Saint women's golf team made the NCAA Division III tournament in just its fourth year of competition in 2002-2003 and have continued to emerge as one of the top programs among Division III teams in the Northeast.
Courtney Teser and Meghan Clement led the Saints in their first NCAA appearance as first year players. Teser was fourth as an individual through the first two rounds and fifth heading into the final round, just missing All America with a 12th place finish overall. She shot an opening round 79, the lone sub-80 round in the tournament for a Saint player. Clement, also a member of the Saint women's lacrosse team finished strong in the tournament with two 84s and an 80 and finished 18th overall, while junior Kristen Monsell had rounds of 85-91-86 and 85 to finish 28th overall.
Clement became the first New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association golf champion in the fall of 2004 and led the Saints to the first NYSWCAA team title.
Coach Mary Lawrence, a former LPGA touring professional, has quickly built the Saint men's and women's teams into NCAA contenders and the Saints are one of the top small college teams in New York State.
The Saint golfers benefit from an indoor golf training center which is one of the finest in the East. It includes a golf simulator, three computerized hitting areas, a putting green and a chipping area for winter practice and training. The Saints' outdoor home is the St. Lawrence University Golf Course, a 6700 yards championship-caliber course from the blue tees which is one of the best courses in Northern New York.
Both men's and women's teams play a fall and spring schedule with the spring season opening with a southern trip during semester break.
