
BIG 2ND DAY HELPS SAINTS TO 2ND AT WILLIAMS
Oct. 12: St. Lawrence University’s women’s golf team, fifth after the first round in the Williams Fall Classic, shot the second best team round of the tournament on Sunday at the Taconic Golf Club and jumped up to a second place finish in the 14-team event.
The Saints shot a best-four score of 324 on Sunday, second only to Middlebury’s 317 in the same round, and leapfrogged Williams, Amherst and Mount Holyoke to finish second to Middlebury in the final standings. Middlebury won the event with a 642 total with the Saints finishing at 654, Mount Holyoke and Williams at 657 and Amherst at 660 with Holy Cross a distant sixth at 710.
Lindsay Cone led the charge for the Saints, showing a four-over par round of 75 on Sunday. The 75 was a collegiate low for the Saint rookie and followed an 83 on Saturday for a 158 total, tied for third overall. Cone's 75 on the challenging 5802 yard Taconic course was the second best round of the tournament, trailing only a 72 by individual champion Courtney Mazzei of Middlebury.
Sophomore Alair Muzzati shots rounds of 79 and 83 and tied for seventh with a 162 total while Melissa Snizek shot back-to-back rounds of 83 for a 166 total and a tie for 18th. Kristin Berretta was just two strokes back of Snizek with rounds of 85 and 83 and tied for 22nd at 168. Junior Cait Cunningham returned to action after being out for several weeks due to illness and shot rounds of 96 and 91, finishing with a 187 total, tied for 49th in a 76-player field.
The tournament concluded the fall season for the Saints who will return to action in April.
