Tom Wopperer '09 wins bronze medal in Empire State Games
Rising senior Tom Wopperer found himself playing with and against some of the best Division I and Division II basketball players in New York State last weekend at the 31st Empire State Games in Binghamton, NY, but that didn’t stop him from showing his teammates and competitors how strong of an asset he is to any team he plays for, as he led the Central squad to a bronze medal and was one of the team’s top scorers throughout the weekend. Summer blogs
Blake Carbone '09 and Josh Johnson '10 join the blogging world as they keep you up to date with their summer internships in the admissions office. Here's an excerpt from Josh's blog:  Just recently SLU installed lots of new equipment in the Stafford Fitness Center. My favorite new addition is a fitness biking game. The machine has a large flat screen attached to the front of a stationary bike. You can select different modes on the machine to actually bike different courses, distances, and set a pacer to keep you on track. The program keeps track of your mileage and you can sign in with your user ID when you return to the machine to save your stats. It will even set goals for you along the way. My current goal is to bike the distance of a marathon.

Hassan Raza '11 is blogging from his internship at The Chautauqua Institute, where he is part of a three-student team examining the Abrahamic religions. Read Hassan's blog

Tsewang Lama'10 is blogging from her home in Nepal after an internship in Toronto. She has been trying to secure a Visa to study in China this fall, having been accepted into St. Lawrence's program in Shanghai. She writes about her disppointment: It would be naïve of me to think that the only reason why I was denied a Chinese VISA for the second time was because I have a Tibetan name and face. I know it does not help to have the same last name as Dalai Lama even though the Lama in his name is not actually his surname. The Lama in his name is a title that is given to monks. I feel bad for millions in Nepal who have the same last name because they probably face the same problem as me. Read Tsewang's blog.
