Katie Hoskinson '11 Wins Award For Poster Presentation
Katie Hoskinson '11, of Scotia, NY, won one of 15 Outstanding Undergraduate Student Poster Awards for her poster presentation at the 2010 Joint Northeastern-Southeastern Sections Meeting of the Geological Society of America in Baltimore, Maryland. Some 253 undergraduate students presented posters at the meeting.
Roommates Win 'Projects For Peace' Grants
Two St. Lawrence students - roommates - have been awarded "100 Projects for Peace" grants for 2010, in the fourth year of the program. With the grants, of $10,000 each, Brijlal Chaudhari '10, of Nepal, and Melih Cokaygil '11, of Turkey, plan to undertake projects in their home countries.
SLU Piskor Lecture, Exhibition By Melissa Schulenberg: 'still'
An exhibition of work by Associate Professor of Fine Arts Melissa Schulenberg, titled "still," will be in the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery at St. Lawrence University April 8 through May 16. In conjunction with the exhibition, Schulenberg will deliver the Frank P. Piskor Faculty Lecture on Tuesday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Room 109 of the Noble University Center.
|Gerald Early At St. Lawrence For Writers Series
Essayist and American culture critic Gerald Early will speak at St. Lawrence University on Thursday, April 8, at 8 p.m. in the Common Room of Sykes Residence Hall. The event, part of the University's Writers Series, is open to the public, free of charge.
|SLU Concert Performance By 'Four Hands, Four Feet' Set
St. Lawrence University musician-in-residence Sondra Goldsmith Proctor and guest artist Martin Kasparek will perform in a program titled "Four Hands, Four Feet: Organ Music from Central and Eastern Europe" on Saturday, April 10, at 8 p.m. in Gunnison Memorial Chapel at St. Lawrence University. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
|'Just War' Theory Discussed By Army Major In Talk At St. Lawrence
U.S. Army Major Jennifer Brewer Bottoms will give a talk titled "Just War: Relic or Guide? Its Development and Place in the 21st Century" on Monday, April 12, at 7 p.m. in Herring-Cole at St. Lawrence University. The event is open to the public, free of charge; a dessert reception will follow.
Baseball Takes Four from Vassar
Baseball turned around a six-game losing streak by overpowering Vassar last weekend, 17-4, 11-7, 6-1 and 12-4. On Wednesday, the Saints dropped a 3-2 decision to Oswego in SLU's home opener. Softball swept a non-league double- header with SUNY Potsdam, 5-4 and 6-0, after dropping both games of a twin bill to Elmira, 4-3 and 2-0, Thursday. Alyssa Pirinelli '10 won the shot put and hammer throw for women's track, while Austin Carpenter and Ian Schofield won individual events for men's track at the Hamilton Invitational. Men's tennis knocked off 15th-ranked Rochester, 5-4, and beat Nazareth, 8-1, at the Sammis Courts. Women's tennis lost to Rochester, 6-3, but downed Nazareth, 7-2. Men's lacrosse saw its 32-game win streak in the Liberty League come to an end Saturday, losing 10-9 at Skidmore. Women's lacrosse beat Rochester 18-7 and Geneseo 16-13 last week.
SLU 15th Overall In Directors Cup Standings
St. Lawrence University ranks in the top 5% of 273 qualifying institutions, in the Division III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings.
The University is in 15th place, the highest ranking in school history.
