St. Lawrence University's new Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall will be dedicated with a concert on Friday, October 22. Doors open at 7 p.m.; the brief dedication ceremony takes place at 8 p.m., with the concert performance to follow.

Arizona University Professor of Law and former Nigerian Cabinet Minister Leslye Obiora will deliver the CLR James Lecture in African Studies at St. Lawrence University, on the topic "Looking for Africa Where It Can be Found." Thomas Marcinkowski '76 Receives Environmental Education Award
Thomas Marcinkowski '76, associate professor of science and environmental education at Florida Institute of Technology (FIT), Melbourne, recently received the Walter E. Jeske Award from the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE). Accepting the award, Marcinkowski gave specific thanks to retired St. Lawrence faculty members Alan Schwartz, environmental studies, and William Elberty, geography, for opportunities afforded him early in his academic career.

Professor of Physics Daniel Koon is the author of the "Light Touch" column in the September 2010 issue of Optics and Photonics News. The column is titled "The Myth of the Fiber-Optic Polar Bear: Fuzzy Wuzzy Wasn't Phototonic, Was He?"

Andrew Bliss '14 Places First In Ski Jump Event
Andrew Bliss '14, of Lake Placid, NY, placed first in the Open Class on the second day of the 2010 Flaming Leaves Ski Jumping Festival, held in Lake Placid on October 9 and 10. He placed 12th on the first day, also in the Open Class.

The St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team has joined forces with the Lymphoma Research Foundation and together, they are "Trucking Over Lymphoma," as every four minutes, one person is diagnosed with a form of blood cancer.

Tennis Duo Claims State Crown
Hillary Drewery '12 and Stephanie Finn '11 won a state doubles championship for the women's tennis team last weekend at Ithaca College. Football posted another stunning victory, downing Union 23-14 on the road Saturday and stands alone in first place in the Liberty League. Men's soccer beat Union, 2-1, in overtime and then returned home to play to a 1-1 tie with Ithaca. Women's soccer beat Oswego and Clarkson by 2-1 scores. Women's hockey tied Clarkson 1-1 on Friday at Clarkson, but dropped a 3-2 decision to the Golden Knights at Appleton Arena Saturday. Men's hockey made its second trip to Minnesota in as many weeks and lost at Ferris State, 4-2 and 3-0. Field hockey beat Nazareth 3-2, but lost to Geneseo 3-2. Volleyball went 2-1 at the Stevens Institute Invitational.
