SLU Chosen To Participate In National Project On General Education For A Global Century
St. Lawrence University is one of 32 institutions selected by the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) in a competitive process to participate in General Education for a Global Century, a curriculum and faculty development project that is part of AAC&U's Shared Futures initiative, funded by the Henry Luce Foundation. Over 140 institutions applied to be part of the initiative.
|SLU Earns High Grade On Sustainability 'Report Card'
St. Lawrence University has maintained its B grade on the 2011 College Sustainability Report Card, issued by the Sustainable Endowments Institute. The "grade" places St. Lawrence in the top half of all schools evaluated by the independent organization, which reported a "surge in green initiatives" at colleges across the country.

Associate Professor of Physics Aileen O'Donoghue will write a column for the Adirondack Daily Enterprise newspaper in Saranac Lake, New York, on astronomy, titled "The Wilderness Above."

Emerita Professor of Anthropology Celia Nyamweru is the author of an article titled "St. Lawrence University Students Help Mentor Akwesasne Youth," in Vol. 4, No. 1 of the newspaper Akwesasne: A Special People A Special Place, a publication of the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne. The article details St. Lawrence students' involvement in youth programs at Akwesasne.

The second annual Fall Festival, including a wood-cutting demonstration aimed at raising awareness about carbon emissions, was the subject of a feature story in the Watertown Daily Times on October 30, 2010.

Volleyball prepped for this week's Liberty League Tournament by placing second at the Upstate Regional Tournament in Rochester. The Saints won their first three matches before losing to New York University in the finals. Men's soccer capped a stellar regular season with a 3-0 rout of Clarkson. The Saints, who debuted in the national rankings at No. 15 last week, will take a 14-game unbeaten streak into Wednesday's Liberty League semifinal against Hamilton at MacAllaster Field. The men's and women's cross country squads continued their dominance of the Liberty League this weekend, with both teams claiming conference titles. The women, who were led by overall champion Wendy Pavlus '11, won their ninth straight title. The men, who have now won an amazing 17 straight league titles, were paced by overall winner Josh Johnston '12. Men's hockey continued its winless start with a heartbreaking 2-1 overtime loss to Clarkson in a non-league game at Lake Placid. Women's hockey opened its ECAC season with a 3-2 loss to RPI and 1-0 win over Union. Swimming and diving continued its strong start, as the men improved to 3-0 with wins over Skidmore and Nazareth, while the women are 2-1 after beating Skidmore, but losing to Nazareth. Riding had a great opening weekend, winning its home show and placing second at Cazenovia.
