Innovation Grants Announced
Ten projects have been awarded Innovation Grants, in a program aimed at improving the quality of life at St. Lawrence through curricular, co-curricular, or campus life projects and provide a foundation for St. Lawrence's future. Details, including project leaders, are available on the SLU Web site. A call for spring proposals will be announced soon.

St. Lawrence Seeks Nominations For The North Country Citation
Nominations are due January 14, 2011, for the 2011 North Country Citation awarded by St. Lawrence University.

Heather Cutler '12 Undertakes Astronomy Research In Puerto Rico
Heather Cutler '12, a physics major from Waterbury, VT, traveled to the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico over Thanksgiving break, with Priest Associate Professor of Physics Aileen O'Donoghue and Laboratory Coordinator Jeff Miller, in preparation for a longer residency in January.

On November 30, 2010, "The Answer Sheet" education column in the Washington Post by Valerie Strauss featured a guest entry by Vice President and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Terry Cowdrey, on strategies for students who are turned down by colleges where they applied early decision or early admission.
An essay by English Professor Bob Cowser, reflecting on the death penalty, was published in the Huffington Post on November 29, 2010. Cowser's recent book, Green Fields: Crime, Punishment and a Boyhood Between, deals with a death-penalty case in Tennessee.
The December 2, 2010 edition of The Washington Times included an essay by Dana Professor of Economics Steven Horwitz, on how TSA policies may be endangering more Americans than they save.

The December 5, 2010 issue of the Watertown Daily Times included feature stories on Innovation Grants awarded to 10 projects on campus and Shawn Austin '13, who is raising funds for women in the Congo.

Two Swimmers Claim Individual Titles at Liberty League Championships
The men's swim team had a pair of individual champions at the Liberty League Championships at Union College this weekend. Jared Pallerin '11 won the 500 freestyle and Jason Dutra '13 won the 100 backstroke as the Saints finished fourth as a team. The women's swim team also finished fourth, paced by Casey Abribat '13 with third-place finishes in the 100 and 200 back. Men's squash won two of three, downing Hamilton and Navy before losing to Franklin & Marshall. Women's squash lost to both Franklin & Marshall and Hamilton. Men's hockey started the weekend on the right foot (skate) with a 6-4 win at Quinnipiac, but was overwhelmed by Princeton, 5-1 on Saturday. Women's hockey gave the No. 1 team int he country a tough game, but dropped a 3-1 decision to Cornell. The Saints bounced back to defeat Colgate 5-3 Saturday. Women's basketball suffered its first defeat of the season, 82-80 against Ithaca, but came back to beat Elmira, 79-66. Men's basketball had similar results, losing 79-60 to Ithaca and downing Elmira 59-56.
