Honor A Laurentian Mentor Challenge - June 2011
Throughout June, alumni are encouraged to make their gifts to the University in honor of a mentor, past or present, who helped to shape their St. Lawrence experience. The overall goal is 1856 donors during the month, and the Honor a Laurentian Mentor web site is updated with the lists of "top" mentors; the dedicated Facebook page has messages in tribute to those Laurentians who made a difference.

Prof. Dane's Work In Solo, Group Exhibitions This Summer
A solo exhibition of new paintings by Associate Professor of Art and Art History Kasarian Dane will be at the Ortlip Gallery at Houghton College, Houghton, NY, from June 10 through September 10. Dane will give a lecture at the gallery on September 8.

Research by Associate Professor of Psychology Pamela Thacher, with Assistant Professor of Psychology Serge Onyper, Jack Gilbert '11 and Sam Gradess '11, was presented at SLEEP 2011, the 25th Anniversary Meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies, showing that students who take later classes also tend to get lower grades and use more alcohol, caught the attention of several health-related wire services and showed up in "The Ticker," a blog on the Chronicle of Higher Education web site on June 14, 2011.
Michael Petroni '12 is participating in an internship that includes efforts to save an historic local dam; the Watertown Daily Times included a mention of his project in a June 16, 2011 story.
Dana Professor of Economics Steven Horwitz was a guest on the Fox Business Network's show "Freedom Watch" on June 14, 2011, discussing the Federal Reserve. An opinion piece by Horwitz, detailing how the profit motive can be a force for good, ran in the Austin, Texas American Statesman on June 17, 2011 and the Nashville Tennessean on June 19, 2011.
Professor of English Bob Cowser is quoted in a story in the June 20, 2011 issue of Sports Illustrated, about facts coming to light on a woman long considered the first girl to play Little League baseball.
The Watertown Daily Times published a story June 19, 2011, about Tandazani Dhlakama '11, who is selling artwork that comprised her senior honors thesis in art.
A film project by Benjamin Hull '13, about solutions for bringing supplies of clean water to Uganda, was the subject of a feature story in the Ogdensburg Advance News on June 19, 2011.
The June 12, 2011 edition of The New York Times included an interactive analysis of the Commencement speeches given at a number of colleges, including journalist Tom Brokaw's at St. Lawrence, highlighting common themes, topics, phrases and words.
