John Clark '69 Tops Mentor List
Former St. Lawrence University athletics director and wrestling coach John A. Clark ’69 topped the list of favorite mentors in the recently concluded Honor A Laurentian Mentor Challenge, the alumni and parents program office announced today.

Media around the world reported on Christian Lopez's "catch and release" of New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter's 3,000th career hit on July 9, 2011. Lopez '10 said he was happy to return the historic ball to Jeter, because he deserved it. The story has been covered by the New York Times, ESPN, Yahoo! Sports, USA Today (Associated Press), New York Daily News, Daily Mail (U.K.), Watertown Daily Times, and dozens of other media outlets, print and broadcast.
Dana Professor of Canadian Studies and Associate Dean of Academic Advising Robert W. Thacker was featured on Academic Minute on the National Public Radio affilliate based in Albany, NY, WAMC, speaking about Canadian author Alice Munro on July 8. Academic Minute is also featured in the daily Internet-based newsletter Inside Higher Ed.
Author and St. Lawrence Trustee Marion Roach Smith '77 says making memoirs interesting and readable is harder than it looks. Hear her interview on NPR's "Talk of the Nation," which aired July 13.
Maureen McCoy '13 is biking from town to town across New England, spreading news about climate change. Her quest was covered in the Daily Courier-Observer July 13.
A study by psychology professors Pamela Thacher and Serge Onyper shows that students who mostly take classes with later start times tend to get slightly lower grades on average than other students. A story on the research appears in the July 11, 2011 edition of The Daily Camera in Boulder, CO.
Inspired by the findings of a class project, Mike Petroni '12 is working to save the Croghan dam in Lewis County, as reported in the July 11 edition of the Watertown Daily Times.
Benjamin Hull '13 is making a 23-minute documentary titled "Uganda 23" in hopes of bringing attention to that country's water crisis. The Watertown Daily Times reported his efforts in a July 12 story.
In an op-ed that appeared in the July 6 edition of The(Louisville, KY) Courier-Journal, President Emeritus Daniel F. Sullivan argues that the best business education is rooted solidly in liberal arts.
The Independent Scholar program run by Associated Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley, which provides funding for research by partners of faculty at the four member colleges (including St. Lawrence), was the topic of a story in the July 5 edition of the Watertown Daily Times.
