St. Lawrence Profs Edit Anthology About Hispanic Grandmothers
Two St. Lawrence University language professors are the editors of a new anthology of remembrances of Hispanic grandmothers. Abuelas hispanas: desde la memoria y el recuerdo, published in May 2012 by Ediciones Torremozas in Madrid, is edited by Ilia Casanova-Marengo and Marina Llorente, both associate professors of modern languages and literatures who teach Spanish.

'Money, Media & The Election' Topic For Lecture At St. Lawrence
Josh Stearns, a St. Lawrence University graduate and free press advocate, will give a talk titled "Money, Media and the Election" on Tuesday, October 16, at 7 p.m. in the Common Room of Sykes Residence Hall. The event, part of the Contemporary Issues Forum, is open to the public, free of charge.

Modern 'Fairy Tale' Author Kate Bernheimer Speaking In SLU Writers Series
Kate Bernheimer, recently called "one of the living masters of the fairy tale," will speak and read from recent work in an appearance at St. Lawrence University on Thursday, October 18, at 8 p.m. in the Common Room of Sykes Residence Hall. The event, part of the University's Writers Series, is open to the public free of charge.

Speaker At SLU To Discuss Debate Between Country & City
Sarah Skwire, a fellow at Liberty Fund, Inc., will give a talk at St. Lawrence University titled "Leaving the Land of Cockaigne," considering some of the long history of the literary debate between the country and the city. The lecture, open to the public free of charge, is on Thursday, October 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Hepburn Hall.

The website picked St. Lawrence as one of the 10 schools for Quidditch seekers, where the Harry Potter-inspired game is played, in a September 24 posting.

Whelan Fourth, Saints Tied for Second at ECAC Golf Championships
Jack Whelan '15 shot a second-round 69 to finish fourth and led the men's golf team to a second-place tie at the ECAC Championships. Aimee Caligiore '13 tied for third to lead women's golf at the Williams Invitational. Men's soccer dominated Hobart for a 3-0 win after doing the same to St. John Fisher in a 4-0 victory earlier in the week. Women's soccer lost 1-0 to No. 20 William Smith. Football got its offense going, but was unable to gain a victory in a 46-27 loss at RPI. Men's hockey opened its season with a 3-2 overtime victory against Carleton in an exhibition game at Appleton Arena. Women's hockey started its 2012-13 campaign with a pair of hard-fought losses to Clarkson, 1-0 at Appleton Friday and 3-2 at Clarkson on Saturday. Women's cross country won its own Hoffmann Invitational, while men's cross country finished second. Field hockey lost 6-1 to William Smith and 4-1 to Rochester.
