SLU Board Of Trustees Approves Site, Contractor For New Residence Hall
St. Lawrence University's Board of Trustees has accepted the recommendation of a committee of faculty, students, staff, alumni and trustees to build a new residence hall near the Noble Center and the Quad. The recommended site is one of three evaluated by the committee. The new building is expected to house 150 students and be completed for the fall semester of 2014.
Composer Of 'I'll Be Home For Christmas' Graduated From SLU And Left Lasting Gift
Whether you favor a new take by "The Voice" country star Blake Shelton or the original by crooner Bing Crosby, the enduring popularity of the holiday song "I'll Be Home For Christmas" is good news for St. Lawrence University. The song's composer, J. Kimball "Kim" Gannon, graduated from St. Lawrence in 1924 and left the University a portion of his royalties from all of his compositions in his will.
School Tour Planned For Play Written By St. Lawrence Professor
An organization that works to create "peaceful schools" plans to tour New York State with performances of a play written by a St. Lawrence University professor that is based on a popular children's book with an anti-bullying message.
Marc Delaney '13 Awarded Research Grant
Marc Delaney '13, of Clayton, N.Y., has been awarded a research grant by the Beta Beta Beta Foundation. A biology major with a minor in chemistry, Delaney will work with faculty mentor Assistant Professor of Biology Karin Heckman on a project studying cancer-fighting properties of lycopene, a substance found in tomatoes.
Latest Round Of Innovation Grant Awards Announced
An additional place to fill up a water bottle, iPads for students with special needs and a local currency are among the latest projects to be funded through the Innovation Grants program begun by President William L. Fox in 2010. The grants are awarded to encourage initiatives that will improve the quality of life at St. Lawrence through curricular, co-curricular or campus life projects and "provide a foundation for St. Lawrence's future."

Women's Hockey Sweeps Past Penn State
The St. Lawrence women's hockey team improved to 10-7-1 overall heading into the break after beating Penn State 4-2 and 3-1 at Appleton Arena last weekend. Men's hockey dropped a pair of games to rival Clarkson, 4-1 at Appleton Wednesday and 3-1 in Lake Placid Saturday. Men's basketball lost to SUNY Potsdam 68-66, while women's basketball defeated Hartwick 58-51. Ella Martin '16 set two meet records to pace women's track at the SLU Holiday Relays. Men's track won six events at the meet.
