Meeting Set To Share SLU Sustainability Semester Info With Community
Potential community partners are being sought for St. Lawrence University's Sustainability Semester, set to begin January 21. An "information-sharing" meeting will be held on Thursday, January 10, at 7 p.m. at the site of the program, the Cornell Cooperative Extension Learning Classroom, just off campus on Route 68.
Nominations For St. Lawrence University's North Country Citation Sought
Nominations are due January 25, 2013, for the 2013 North Country Citation awarded by St. Lawrence University. North Country Citations are presented to those members of the six counties of Northern New York (St. Lawrence, Lewis, Jefferson, Essex, Warren, and Franklin) who, through professional endeavor or personal example, contribute in special ways to improving the quality of life or fostering a sense of community in the region.
St. Lawrence President Joins Initiative Urging Gun Safety Legislation
St. Lawrence University President William L. Fox is among the more than 160 presidents of colleges and universities from across the country who have signed an open letter regarding gun safety legislation.
Econ Faculty & Students Conducting Research In Nepal
Two economics professors and three students are spending part of the semester break in Nepal, studying the effect of remittances on literacy in that country.

The cover story in the Winter 2013 issue of The Independent Review, "The Reality of the Wartime Economy: More Historical Evidence on Whether World War II Ended the Great Depression," was written by Dana Professor of Economics Steven Horwitz and Michael McPhillips '11.
Visiting Assistant Professor of Anthropology Mindy Pitre offered her views on whether or not "Bigfoot" might be lurking in the Adirondacks, as some have reported, in a story for WWNY-TV 7 in Watertown on January 1, 2013.
Priest Associate Professor of Physics Aileen O'Donoghue is quoted in a story titled "The Dark Side: A guide to the season's most abundant resource" in the January/February 2013 issue of Adirondack Life magazine.

Men's Hockey Wins 1,000th Game in Program History
It took a bit longer than expected, but the men's hockey team ended a five-game losing streak Saturday night at Appleton Arena with a 4-3 victory over RIT, recording the thousanth victory in program history. Women's hockey came back from break and beat No. 9 Northeastern 6-0 before dropping a tough 4-3 overtime decision to No. 5 Boston College. Men's basketball lost games at Brockport (91-62) and Oswego (62-52).
