Award-Winning SLU Visiting Professor is Final Guest for Writers Series
St. Lawrence University Viebranz Visiting Professor of Creative Writing Stephanie Elizondo Griest will conclude the yearlong Writers Series and read from her recent work on Thursday, April 25, at 8 p.m. in the Common Room of Sykes Residence Hall. The event is open to the public, free of charge.

SLU String Orchestra to Perform April 26 and 28
The St. Lawrence University String Orchestra will present their spring concert, “Memorable Music from Movies, TV, and Video Games,” on Friday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m. at the Russell Opera House in Russell and on Sunday, April 28, at 2 p.m. in the Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall in the Griffiths Arts Center at St. Lawrence University. Both events are open to the public, free of charge.

Potsdam Again Victorious in SLU Math Contest
A team from Potsdam Central School won the 69th Annual Pi Mu Epsilon Interscholastic Mathematics Contest, held April 17 at St. Lawrence University and sponsored by the University's mathematics, computer science and statistics department and the local chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, the mathematics honorary. The victory marks the fourth straight Pi Mu Epsilon Interscholastic Cup for Potsdam.

Last 'Noon in the Chapel' Rescheduled for May 3
St. Lawrence University will host the final “Noon in the Chapel” of the season on Friday, May 3, at 12:15 p.m. in Gunnison Memorial Chapel.

Spring 2013 Innovation Grants Announced
Repair stands and additional green bikes for campus, increased recycling options and collaborative efforts among coaches, faculty and students are some of the latest projects to be funded through the Innovation Grants program begun by President William L. Fox in 2010. The grants are awarded to encourage initiatives that will improve the quality of life at St. Lawrence through curricular, co-curricular or campus life projects and "provide a foundation for St. Lawrence's future."

A review of the third FSG edition of Professor of Modern Languages Steven White's translation of Poet in New York by Spanish poet Federico García Lorca was published in the Wall Street Journal on April 12.
"Law-Making and the Securitization of the Jewish identity in Israel," an article written by Assistant Professor of Government Ronnie Olesker, was recently published in the Ethnopolitics Journal. The article explores the role of law-making in securitizing the ethnic identity of the state of Israel.

Women’s Track and Field Wins Liberty League Championship
The women's track and field team earned its second straight Liberty League outdoor track and field championship, led by graduate student Elizabeth Edwards and Divya Biswal '15, who both won two events at the meet. The men's track and field team finished third. The No. 17 men's lacrosse team earned a 10-4 win over SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday and cruised past RPI 12-3 on Saturday at "Senior Day," clinching a Liberty League playoff berth in the process. The women's crew varsity 8+ defeated Hamilton to claim the Newell Cup on Saturday, while both men and women's crew defeated Union on Sunday. Softball earned three victories this week, defeating SUNY Canton 6-3 on Wednesday and then Skidmore 8-5, 9-0 in a doubleheader on Saturday. Jack Whalen '15 was the individual champion at the Fred Kravitz Invitational, where the Saints men's golf team placed sixth overall. The women's golf team finished 12th in the Jack Leaman Invitational Golf Tournament. Baseball went 2-5 last week, splitting against Vassar (7-2 loss, 11-5 win), defeating Plattsburgh State on Wednesday (15-4) but falling to RPI in each of their four contests this weekend (2-1, 16-5, 8-4, 6-1). Women's tennis celebrated a 8-1 victory over RIT on Sunday, while men's tennis also defeated RIT 6-3 on Sunday after falling to Hamilton 7-2 earlier in the week.
