St. Lawrence Honors Graduates at Commencement
With thousands of family members and friends in attendance, 548 graduates celebrated Commencement on Sunday, May 19, at St. Lawrence University. A total of 519 bachelor’s degrees and 29 master’s degrees were awarded. For a round-up of the event, including a photo gallery of the weekend, visit the Commencement website.
Physics Honorary Welcomes New Members
The University’s physics honorary society Sigma Pi Sigma inducted six new members on April 25. Membership in the Sigma Pi Sigma Honor Society is by invitation to students who have completed three or more semesters at St. Lawrence and at least three physics courses, have a physics cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and are ranked in the top third of their class.

The newest graduates of St. Lawrence University were encouraged Sunday to remain lifelong learners who adapt to a rapidly evolving world, the Watertown Daily Times reported.

Assistant Professor of History Howard Eissenstat recently participated at the Right to Know conference at the University of Florida on freedom of press issues in Central Europe. Eissenstat presented a paper titled, "Illiberal Democrats: The AKP and Freedom of Expression in Turkey."

Six Saints to Compete at Track and Field NCAA’s
Six members of the men’s and women’s track and field teams will compete at the 2013 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse May 23-25. Last weekend, the Saints competed at the ECAC Outdoor Championships. At the meet, Jake Fredericks '13 improved his own St. Lawrence record in the 100 hurdles and cemented his NCAA bid. For the women, Divya Biswal '15 moved into the top 10 in the country in the triple jump with her effort, and Caroline Raue '13 won the 3000 meter steeplechase, putting her in the running for an NCAA berth.
