Voting While Off-Campus

Preparing to Vote Off-Campus

You can participate in a US election while studying off-campus as long as you:

  • Are a US citizen at least 18 years old.
  • Register to vote by the deadline.
  • Apply for an absentee ballot by the deadline.

As a college student, you may choose to register at either your campus address or your home address. The absentee ballot you receive will be specific to the place where you register. Deadlines for steps in this process begin to arrive in October. To make sure your vote will be counted, you should get prepared no later than September!

How do I Register to Vote?

How can I check if I'm already registered to vote?

...If I will be in the US and I am registered in New York?

...If I will be in the US and I am registered in another state?

What if I have more questions?

Andrew Goodman was a college student from New York who was killed in 1964 for working to register Black voters in Mississippi. In his honor, the Andrew Goodman Foundation is dedicated to voting rights and civic engagement among young people. Through the Vote Everywhere program, the AGF supports teams of college student ambassadors who help their peers register and vote.
