Gladys Gray Merrill Collection

Most of the letters are letters Max to Gladys beginning in 1917, when Max is serving in the army during the First World War, and continue through 1922.  They are Max’s account of their courtship—from dinners, to dances (successful and otherwise), to canoe trips where Max wanted Gladys not to bring any of her friends. These letters evoke a feeling of being young—they also provide an interesting view on life here in the greater Canton area in the years immediately after World War One.  Also included are a number of ephemeral pieces representing Gladys’s college days at St Lawrence. A Finding Aid for the collection is available online.
