New Special Collections Acquisition

One of our most important Civil War Collections is 16th New York Infantry Regiment Records (MSS 133).  The regiment had five companies raised of men from St. Lawrence County (and other North Country Counties contributed soldiers to the regiment).

The 16th New York fought at a number of battles including Bull Run, West Point, and Antietam.  We have recently acquired a new document for this collection.  What we have added is a scouting report from Lieutenant Pliny Moore (of Plattsburg New York) to Lieutenant Scott Moore (also of Clinton County) detailing a reconnoiter by men in Company C toward Confederate positions near Mechanicsville Virginia.  The document is very lucid and legible, and offers a clear version of the purpose and tension within the mission.  Like any of our manuscript collections, the 16th New York Infantry Regiments Records are open for inspection in the Frank and Anne Piskor Reading Room.
