Community Mentor: Aiden Pierre-Louis

Agency and Placement Location: Meals are prepared in the Eben Holden kitchen at St. Lawrence and served at the Canton Unitarian Church (3 1/2 E Main St, Canton, NY 13617, less than a mile from campus)

Mission: According to their website, Campus Kitchens Project (CKP) started at St. Lawrence in 2010 when one of its students applied for a CKP grant as a Senior project. It has since become a vitally important service that community members-at-large depend on for shared meals and fellowship. Every single week, 52 weeks of the year, St. Lawrence students and community volunteers turn food that would otherwise be wasted from campus dining halls and local farms into delicious, nutritionally balanced, three-course meals. The program provides leadership and service learning opportunities to students while helping to meet nutritional and social needs of adults, seniors, children and families in the community.

Projects:

  • Sunday (2:00pm-4:00pm): Prep Shift
  • Monday (2:30pm-4:30pm): Cook Shift

Agency Requirements: a mandatory kitchen orientation must be completed before hours begin
