THE VISUAL CULTURE OF REVELATION

David Morgan is Professor of Religious Studies at Duke University. His scholarship has focused on the history of religious visual culture from the 17th century to the 20th century. His books include Visual Piety (1998), The Sacred Gaze (2005), and Images at Work: The Material Culture of Enchantment (2018). His latest book, The Thing about Religion: An Introduction to the Material Study of Religions, appeared in 2021. He is currently working on a book that examines the history of the visual culture of revelation. Morgan co-founded and co-edited the journal Material Religion and currently co-edits a book series, Bloomsbury Studies in Material Religion.

The Kathryn Fraser Mackay Memorial Lectureship fund was established in1980 by Donald and Lottie Mackay in memory of their daughter, Kathryn Fraser Mackay ’77, and supports lectures coordinated by the Religious Studies and Philosophy departments.  The event is free and open to the public.  For additional information, contact the Religious Studies Department 315-229-5125 or kwhittier@stlawu.edu.
