Dr. Mindy Pitre
Associate Professor and Chair of Anthropology

Dr. Mindy Pitre

Dr. Mindy Pitre is often called upon by the local sheriff’s office to assist with investigations involving the discovery of human remains in St. Lawrence County. As Director of the Death in St. Lawrence County Project, Dr. Pitre has investigated cases such as graves eroding from the Grasse River bank at the St. Lawrence County Poorhouse Cemetery and human remains discovered during the replacement of the Village of Heuvelton’s water tower.

Join us to learn how Dr. Pitre leverages her expertise in bioarchaeology — the study of human skeletal remains from archaeological contexts — to collaborate with local law enforcement, historians, construction crews, government agencies, and students, uncovering stories of the dead and shedding light on St. Lawrence County’s past.
